On June 4, 2025, President Donald Trump issued an executive order titled “Restricting the Entry of Foreign Nationals to Protect the United States from Foreign Terrorists and Other National Security and Public Safety Threats.” The order imposes stringent travel restrictions on foreign nationals from several countries.

Nationals from these 12 countries are completely suspended from entering the U.S. under any visa category:

  • Afghanistan
  • Burma (Myanmar)
  • Chad
  • Republic of the Congo
  • Equatorial Guinea
  • Eritrea
  • Haiti
  • Iran
  • Libya
  • Somalia
  • Sudan
  • Yemen

Nationals from these 7 countries face partial restrictions, including suspensions on immigrant and nonimmigrant B-1, B-2, B-1/B-2, F, M, and J visas (other non-immigrant visas will have a reduced validity) as well as enhanced security screenings:

  • Burundi
  • Cuba
  • Laos
  • Sierra Leone
  • Togo
  • Turkmenistan
  • Venezuela

Possible Future Suspension:

  • Egypt – The proclamation states the Secretary of State along with the Attorney General, Secretary of Homeland Security, and Director of National Intelligence will review conditions in Egypt and its vetting and screening capabilities due to recent conditions.

Exceptions include:

  • The above restrictions only apply to those outside of the United States on June 9th, 2025, who do not have valid visas
  • Lawful Permanent Residents (green card holders)
  • Dual nationals traveling on non-designated country passports
  • Those with A-1, A-2, C-2, C-3, G-1, G-2, G-4, NATO-1, NATO-2, NATO-3, NATO-4, NATO-5, or NATO-6
  • Travelers participating in major sporting events like the 2026 World Cup or 2028 Olympics
  • Afghan nationals with Special Immigrant Visas
  • Immediate relative immigrant visas (IR-1, CR-1, IR-2, CR-2, IR-5)
  • Adoptions (IR-3, IR-4,IH-3, IH-4)
  • Special immigrant visas for U.S. Government employees
  • Immigrant visas for ethnic and religious minorities facing persecution in Iran

The executive order is set to take effect on Monday, June 9, 2025 at 12:01 am EDT.
